Skincare essentials for traveling ...

Travel season is almost upon us, and it's essential to care for your skin while in the air and on the road. While vacation activities are rejuvenating for the spirit, they’re also tough on skin. So, it's important to fight the effects of environmental damage to skin with a few simple travel hints.

Moisturize
While everyone should be using a daily skin moisturizer, it’s especially important in the 24 hours before flying. Apply moisturizer liberally the night before you hop aboard a plane and drink plenty of water. Your skin will need increased hydration before you're exposed to the dehydrating effects of cabin pressure.

Skip the Foundation
Instead of foundation while traveling, wear a moisturizing BB cream. The tint will give you color for a fresh, healthy look without the heavy coverage and pore blocking in foundations. BB creams offer hydrating coverage with added skin care benefits, including anti-oxidants.

Water in and out
Lightly mist face with water to refresh makeup. Even dabbing on a drop of moisturizer mid-flight will keep those little facial lines plumped to minimize wrinkles. Drink plenty of water and skip the alcohol to stay hydrated.

Shimmer
Banish that tired look and perk up your complexion with a light dusting of shimmery powder. Lightly apply to the tops of cheeks, bridge of the nose, and chin for an instant boost. A light cream blush will add color and moisture without dehydrating skin.

Love your lips
Protect your lips without using long-lasting lipstick that can dehydrate lips. Instead, use a lip stain and top it off with a clear gloss that can be reapplied in-flight. Now that medical evidence suggests the drying effects of lip balms, please skip these. “Don't be fooled by lip balms,” says Dr. Mauro C. Romita, a specialist in aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery. "Contrary to what most people believe, [some] don't hydrate the lips. Instead, they seal moisture out, so lips can't absorb it!" Even worse, lip balms that contain menthol, camphor and peppermint might irritate your chapped lips, keeping them from healing.

Perk up eyes and eliminate puffiness
Reading and watching movies for extended periods in dry cabin air can be hard on eyes. So, don't forget to bring eyedrops to soothe and lubricate those peepers. And, pack a washcloth in your carry-on luggage. You can ask your flight attendant for crushed ice that you can put in the washcloth and apply under the eyes. It’s a great wake-up call that instantly eliminates puffy eyes and makes you feel fresher.

Bare lashes
If you’ve ever napped on a plane, you know mascara can leave an unsightly trail down your cheeks, the waterproof versions will clump and cream eye shadows love to migrate to creases in your eyelids. Skip the eye makeup entirely (wear sunglasses if you must), but wait until shortly before arrival at your destination to glam up those peepers.

Nails au naturel
Ever chipped those brightly colored nails when traveling? Nothing leaves you looking more unfinished than tortured polish on those fingernails. Instead buff for a natural sheen or use clear nail polish for a clean, crisp look. Neutral, sheer color will never call attention if it doesn’t chip.

Banish bacteria
Do you have any idea of the quantity of unknown bacteria in the airport terminal, on a plane or even in the taxi to your destination? We can confidently say an enormous germ pool is just awaiting your arrival. While I’m generally opposed to antibacterial hand wash, this is the one of the few exceptions I make. Use it on your hands to eliminate as much bacteria as possible to protect your skin and your general health. While traveling, remember to avoid touching your face with your hands to avoid those nasty germs and bacterial breakouts.

Keep it clean and nourished
When packing skin care items from home, make sure an all-natural, chemical-free cleanser is the first thing in your carry-on. Using commercial-grade soaps found on airlines, in public restrooms and hotels can disrupt skin's acid balance and cause a vacation breakout, not to mention some serious dry skin. Bring along hydrating ACEQUIA bodycare, including: Natural Castile Soap, Luxe Body Wash and Skin Nourishment Lotions in TSA approved size Travel Totes for happy, healthy skin on your travels.

Each ACEQUIA Travel Tote contains 1 each of Natural Castile Soap, Luxe Body Wash
and Skin Nourishment Lotion. Available in six fresh, signature scents.

According to the Transportation Safety Administration (TSA), “you are allowed to bring one small bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes through the checkpoint. These are limited to 3.4 ounces or less per container. Consolidate these containers in a 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag; 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin. The bag limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. Travel light and arrive in style.
